One of my favorite directors, M. Night Shyamalan, once said that he chooses to imply the presence of a monster rather than showing it outright in his films. He believes that leaving parts of the threat unseen taps into the audience’s imagination. No monster that he can make will scare us as much as the monsters we imagine for ourselves.
Likewise, in this series I leave more and more information out of the paintings. This leaves room for the viewer to fill in the gaps, providing a unique experience for each viewer.
